Biosketch
Mervy C. Pueblo actively pursued her career as a visual artist since 2001. She has participated in numerous exhibitions and sculpture symposiums, locally and internationally such as; Japan 2018, 2016, 2012 and 2009, Malaysia 2018 and 2016, France and Singapore in 2014, the United States in 2011-2013, South Korea in 2011, 2010 and 2008, Russia in 2008, and Vietnam in 2007.
Under the flagship of Fulbright, she received her terminal degree from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design - M.F.A. Visual Studies major in Public Art & Sculpture, with masteral units in Art Education. While she received her B.F.A. degree in Advertising from St. Scholastica's College Manila.
Pueblo’s studio practice explores human relationships and the everyday life raising concerns in human and environmental ecology. She has received several awards from different institutions such as the Thirteen Artist Awards (Winner, 2015 CCP, PH), Ethel Morrison Vanderlip Award (Winner, 2013 USA), Ateneo Art Awards (Finalist, 2012 PH), the Metrobank Art and Design Excellence: Sculpture Competition (Special Citation and Finalist, 2006-2010 PH), and Recognition of Talented Youth in Arts and Culture conferred by the office of the Pasig City Mayor (2006). Moreover, she has been an Arts Network Asia grantee (2007 Singapore), Metrobank Foundation travel grant recipient (2007 PH), Haslla Art World Museum artist-in-residence grantee (2011 South Korea), and represented the Philippines to following international art events: 7th Nakanojo Biennale Japan (2019), Taebeak Snow Sculpture Exposition (2009 South Korea), Miyazaki International Sculpture Exhibit (2009 Japan), Chistiye Prudi Penza International Sculpture Symposium (2008 Russia), and Hai Phong International Sculpture Symposium (2007 Vietnam).
A nominee for the AICAD Post-graduate Teaching Fellowship this 2016, Mervy have been teaching art since 2004. Her teaching experience includes informal art classes, SPED art workshops, undergraduate-level, and graduate-level courses. Institutions that Mervy was affiliated with as a teacher are the ff: The Philippine Women’s University-Manila: School of Fine Arts and Design Graduate Program, the Minneapolis College of Art and Design USA, DLSU Bahay Pag-Asa: House of Convicted Youth Offenders, Bacolod, MADE Network of Winners: Art Therapy Projects, Therapy Plus: School for People with the Down Syndrome, Link Center for the Deaf and Mute Manila as art workshop facilitator, and GenSan Gallery, Davao. In 2013, Mervy was appointed to head the graduate program of the PWU School of Fine Arts and Design, but left in Oct. 2015 for her self initiated and funded visual art research projects: Project Embrace: Sculptural Mountain Nets/Braces to Landslide Prone Areas in the Philippines (WIP) land art project, and I've Been Silent (WIP) installation exhibition. By January 2016, she has joined the School of Design and Art: Industrial Design program.
